Hey! I'm Stuart

I was born in the Midlands and grew up in Tamworth, in England's Midlands. Little known fact: I could fly a plane before I could drive a car! I took my first solo flight on my 17th birthday.

I joined Tesco at 16 and stayed nearly 30 yearsโ€”the first 10 in stores, before joining Head Office and moving to Hertfordshire. I enjoyed a fabulous career with Tesco, including living abroad in Krakow and Prague. I particularly enjoyed my time with Group Food Sourcing and International Operations Development.

For as long as I can remember I've been passionate about business and entrepreneurshipโ€”always looking for ways to solve problems, advance business. It felt natural to set up my own businesses when I left Tesco in 2014. I've been doing just that ever since!

Three Decades of Excellence

1989-1998: Retail Operations

Started at 16 in Tesco stores. Became regional training expert for Stock Control, System Operations, and Wines & Spirits. Led new store openings and refits across the Midlands. Gained duty manager experience at Ashby de la Zouch superstore.

1999-2002: Head Office

Moved to Welwyn Garden City. Stores Helpdesk and Supply Chain roles. Project Manager for Tesco Personal Finance support office. Set up systems for new stores, managed initial ordering, and delivered process improvements.

2003-2005: Event Planning

Developed corporate event planning strategy for UK business. Analyzed sales data, planned system adjustments for major events (Christmas, Easter, weather). Balanced needs of Commercial, Distribution, and Retail teams.

2005-2008: Waste Avoidance

Established first dedicated team for waste analysis. Proactive identification of waste threats through data analysis. Collaborated with Fresh Food Commercial teams and suppliers. Delivered significant cost savings.

International
Operations

Operating Model projects for Tesco internationally. Developed best-practice processes for store and distribution center ordering. Collaborated cross-functionally to meet end-to-end operational requirements across multiple countries.

2011-2013: Group Food

Led development projects for global food sourcing (a ยฃ4.6bn purchasing function). Managed development team, transitioned to Tesco India for cost savings. Deployed Salesforce for Wholesale team. Designed and implemented SharePoint globally.

2013: Poland Deployment

Country Deployment Manager in Krakรณw. Implementing Operating Model systems and process projects across Tesco Poland's 450 stores, 30,000 employees. Key role in "Building a Better Tesco Polska" initiative.

2013-2014: Czech Deployment

Deployment Project Manager in Prague. Primary contact for Supply Chain, Store, and Depot stock ordering across Poland and Czechia. Stakeholder engagement, skills development, testing, and pilot rollout across 375 stores.

Founded multiple businesses including GSCOP Training, The Retail Consultant, and Red Square. Business coach, consultant, and advisor. Non-Executive Director and Trustee roles. GSCOP expert serving thousands of suppliers across Europe.

Part of a board steering operations, overseeing renovations, and ensuring long-term success of this historic site. Working alongside dedicated volunteers to preserve heritage for future generations.

Governance role for Business Improvement District company. Represented business owner interests throughout town centre place management. Part of the team securing successful 2019 renewal.

Supporting ZSL's international conservation work since 2014. The Zoological Society of London is an international scientific, conservation and educational charity promoting the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. My mark can be found on numerous plaques around London Zoo.
